Emanuele Taglietti (born in Ferrara, January 6, 1943) is an Italian designer, illustrator and painter.

Born to an artistic father, Emanuele Taglietti graduated from his local art institute, then moved to Rome where he studied set design at the Experimental Center of Cinematography. He worked on the art direction and set decoration for various films, including Federico Fellini’s Juliet of the Spirits. 

In 1973, he returned to live in his home town and came into contact with Renzo Barbieri of Edifumetto, for whom he worked as a cover artist of erotic, crime, fantasy and horror-themed fumetti (Italian comic books). Having been inspired by artists such as Frank Frazetta and Averardo Ciriello, he created artwork for fumetti such as Zora the vampire, Belzeba, Cimiteria, Sukia, Stregoneria (“Witchcraft”), Gli Spettri (“The Spectres”), Il Sanguinari (“The Blood”), Lo Schelectro (“The Skeleton”), Ulula (“Howls”), Vampirissimo and Wallestein.

Occasionally, Taglietti reworked images and artwork from horror films such as Creature from the Black Lagoon, Night of the Demon (1957) and The Plague of the Zombies, and seems to have had a fixation on actress Ornella Muti (whom he based the image of Sukia on). Featuring the signature nudity of fumetti, his work was sometimes censored when the comic books were publish in other countries, like Spain.

During this busy period, which continued until 1988, Taglietti also restored old paintings and occasionally collaborated as an illustrator for magazine publishers such as Mondadori and Rizzoli. He retired in 2000, broadened the scope of his artistic interests, devoting himself to mural decoration and furniture.

Sonno Profondo (aka Deep Sleep) is a 2013 Argentinian neo-giallo horror film produced by Nicolás Oretti and written, directed and scored by Luciano Oretti.

U.S. distributors BrinkVision has announced plans for VOD, as well as Limited Edition DVD and VHS, although no date is confirmed.

Plot:

The 1970s: A young woman is murdered by an unidentified assailant. Having committed the murder, the mystery killer – who is still traumatised by his childhood memories – receives a mysterious envelope slipped under his door. The hunter becomes the prey when he finds out that the envelope contains photos that show him killing the his female victim…

Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals – released in the USA as Trap Them and Kill Them – is a 1977 Italian erotic horror film, directed by Joe D’Amato (Aristide Massaccesi). The film is part of a loose series of Black Emanuelle films that emerged in the second half of the 1970s, mostly starring Laura Gemser and directed by D’Amato,

Following the global success of the softcore sex film Emmanuelle in 1974, many film producers around the world climbed on the bandwagon. Possibly because the Emmanuelle producers had the world’s worst lawyers, or possibly because copyright was rather more lax at the time, many of these films managed to use the Emmanuelle name by simply changing the spelling – in the case of Black Emanuelle and its sequels, this involved dropping one ‘M’.

While the original Black Emanuelle, made in 1975, was simply a softcore travelogue very much in the tradition of the original film, but with Laura Gemser – actually Eurasian rather than black, but that seemed close enough for 1970s audiences – in the title role. Interestingly, the same year she made Black Emanuelle, she also appeared in Emmanuelle 2. This version of the character was a photo journalist, who found herself getting into all manner of erotic adventures.

Under the guidance of D’Amato – who took over the series after Black Emanuelle 2 – the films rapidly became more and more outlandish and shocking. By 1977 – a year in which no less than four entries in the series were released, Emanuelle was investigating snuff movie rings in Emanuelle in America, violence against women in Emanuelle Around the World and even became a nun in Sister Emanuelle! These films pushed the limits of good taste – Emanuelle in America has graphic fake snuff movie footage, brief hardcore, while some versions of Emmanuelle Around the World had violent sex scenes and also hardcore inserts. It was no surprise, therefore, that D’Amato would combine the series with the newly popular cannibal films spawned by Ruggero Deodato’s Last Cannibal World. We should perhaps be grateful that he wasn’t pursuing the outrage a year earlier, or we might have had a Naziploitation Emanuelle film!

In Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals, Emanuelle, while working undercover at a hospital, stumbles upon a girl who seems to have been raised by a tribe of cannibals in the Amazon (this discovery is made shockingly when a nurse is attacked and has her right breast bitten off!). She decides to make an expedition to the jungle to find the tribe, taking a professor (played by Gemser’s real life husband and regular co-star Gabriele Tinti) and Susan Scott along, among others. After much erotic romping with both sexes, Emanuelle and her party are captured by the cannibals…

It’s hard to see who this was aimed at. The film has plenty of softcore sex, but it’s likely that the audience lured by the Emanuelle name would be repulsed by the graphic gore (which included graphic castration and some very poor optically created dismemberment), while horror fans would have assumed the film to simply be soft porn. However, the film has since gained a cult following, and is now seen as one of the highlights of the Black Emanuelle series. The film is now seen as a precursor to D’Amato’s sex-horror zombie films Erotic Nights of the Living Dead and Porno Holocaust.

The main theme of the soundtrack, by Nico Fidenco, was released as a seven inch single.

Redemption Films is a British media company created by Nigel Wingrove that began releasing VHS videos in 1992. Wingrove chose to market the company’s initial releases in stark black and white (with blood red trimmings). The company logo featured Eileen Daly, his wife at the time. Initially, some horror and cult movie fans were perplexed by this distinctive approach but they sold well to the general public and the branding/packaging appealed to stores looking to create cult movie selections.

Eventually. under pressure from admirers of original artwork, Redemption (and Salvation) began to issue their sleeves with both original and new artwork, as many DVD and Blu-ray companies now do. In retrospect, some of the unique artwork for Redemption/Salvation releases has now acquired its own cult status and original VHS tapes such as Crazy Desires of a Murderer are very collectible.

Ragini MMS is a 2011 Bollywood found footage Indian horror film directed by Pawan Kripalani and produced by Jeetendra and Shobha Kapoor of Balaji Telefilms. It was released on 13 May 2011 (Friday the 13th).The film is inspired by the 2007 American supernatural horror film Paranormal Activity and is allegedly based on the real story of a girl from Delhi named Deepika. It was promoted in India as “the scariest date movie”.

A sequel, Ragini MMS 2, was released in March, 2014.

Plot teaser:

Ragini (Kainaz Motivala) and Uday (Rajkummar Rao) go to a secluded house, set deep inside a forest, for a weekend of fun. Upon arrival, Ragini and Uday discover worms in their bag of food, but neglect it. Uday has plans of recording a video of Ragini, without her knowledge, so that he can fulfill his dream of becoming an actor. However, they are interrupted by Ragini’s friend, Piya and her boyfriend, Vishal. Vishal was told that the house belonged to a lady who was accused of being a witch, and subsequently killed by her family. However, she returned as a vengeful ghost and murdered her entire family…

Reviews:

The film has met with mixed reviews. Taran Adarsh from Bollywood Hungama gave it 4/5 stars and called it a “creepy, spine-chilling date movie” saying, “Ragini MMS amalgamates components of horror, paranormal and sex seamlessly. It titillates, it petrifies, but most importantly, it tells you a story which is daunting, imaginative and unconventional.

Naresh Deoshi from Apunka Choice also gave the film 4/5 stars calling it “a damn scary film!

Ankur Pathak from Rediff.com gave the film 3.5/5 stars and said “Ekta Kapoor’s new film is terrifyingly real, and immensely watchable for the cold fright it inspires. She must be lauded for relying on young actors, and believing in the risky attempt of largely untouched storytelling.” 

Nikhat Kazmi from the Times of India gave the film 3.5/5 stars as well. She said “…Ragini MMS makes a heady cocktail of sex and horror that’s so very different from run-of-the-mill Bollywood.” Shubha Shetty-Saha gave the film a good review of 3/5 and said “some scenes were so scary, that I actually wanted to run out of the theatre.”

Linnea Quigley‘s Horror Workout isn’t really a movie. It’s not even a workout video. I don’t know what it is, but I’m sure glad it exists. The 1990 video begins, as it should, with a lengthy shower scene. Quigley‘s boobs make their first appearance before the opening minute is out.

The titles appear as Quigley soaps herself up to a synth-soaked soundtrack composed by John Vulich. Vulich’s score is, rather jarringly, out of time. Stepping out of the shower, Quigley breaks the fourth wall, looks right down the barrel of the camera, and screams.

With the opening titles wrapped up, Quigley settles down in front of her fireplace and discusses her career. She shows several clips from such as Creepozoids (1987),Assault of the Party Nerds (1989) and other stinkers they could get the rights for.

After a lengthy sequence of clips, the fitness workout finally begins. Sporting fishnet stockings and a metal-studded bra (“Would you want to watch me work out in a baggy sweatsuit?” Quigley asks. “No,” says I), she launches into a series of aerobic exercises, all of which showcase some part of her scantily clad body. While stretching and twisting, the 80s Scream Queen delivers sexually charged instruction:

- “It keeps me limber, so I can get out of tight places… or into them.”
- “This one increases your ability to keep your legs in the air… I can do this one for hours!”
- “This one is great for the guys… I mean thighs!”
- “That’s right stretch those muscles… not that muscle!”
- “Deep breathing will increase lung capacity… as you can see I’m a real… deep… breather.”

The routine goes on for some time. Halfway through, Quigley is interrupted by a dirty phone call, which at first offends her but then seems to turn her on. The routine wraps up at the twenty minute mark, and we cut to Quigley jogging through a cemetery. She attracts the attention of a horde of zombies, which leads to a zombified version of “What’s the time, Mr Wolf?”

The zombies follow Quigley into her house. Telling the living dead stalkers that they need to get into shape, Quigley does an aerobic dance routine with them by her pool. At some point during this ten minute sequence, something broke in my brain.

Quigley then decides she’s had enough of a workout and invites a bunch of her lingerie-sporting girlfriends over for a slumber party. Again, we’re treating to another lengthy clip parade as she and her pals watch scenes from her movies. To work off the popcorn, Quigley and Co. dive into another aerobics session that features a lot of obnoxious crotch shots.

The workout is interrupted by a power outage. Quigley investigates leaving her friends to the mercy of a Ronald Reagan-masked killer. Linnea Quigley‘s Horror Workout‘s final act is pretty fabulous. It even tosses a bit of cheap gore up on the screen.

It’s such a sadness that we live in a time where something like Linnea Quigley‘s Horror Workout could never exist. This is unashamedly gratuitous and campy silliness made with tongue firmly planted in cheek but without the eye-rolling irony of our current sneering times. And if nothing else, this makes one hell of a party tape. Thanks, Linnea Quigley, you are brilliant.

Misty and Ruby are a couple who run a lesbian bar in New Jersey when their lives change one night with the arrival of a seductive woman (Anoushka) who bites Misty, thus starting her slow transformation into a werewolf. Anoushka the werewolf returns to her home in London, England where she gives an interview to a young reporter about her life as a werewolf, while back in America, Misty undergoes a slow transformation into a werewolf herself which may lead to danger for Ruby, and any other woman involved…

Reviews:

No-budget softcore video with a horror-themed storyline squeeezed into cracks between the nearly wall-to-wall sapphic sex scenes. The final scene (not much of a spoiler) has Erin Brown AKA Misty Mundae transform from human form while spreadeagle-strapped completely nude on a bed, which must have distracted the make-up crew because this ranks as the single worst werewolf-transformation make-up in film history. So inept it comes across as endearing, this eager-to-please home-movie is also mercifully short.

This is a dull soft core sex fantasy that combines vague elements of lycanthropy with yawn-inducing lesbian-themed frolics. It Follows is a 2014 American horror film written and directed by David Robert Mitchell. It stars Maika Monroe, Keir Gilchrist, Daniel Zovatto, Jake Weary,  Olivia Luccardi and Lili Sepe.

The film recently screened at Cannes as part of the Critics Week and has now been picked up for U.S. distribution by Radius.

Known as Draculín in Germany, the film does not appear to have received an English language release.

Albert Kallis was a professional artist who designed many film posters for American International Pictures (AIP) releases in the 1950s. Kallis’ striking designs elevated the selling of exploitation movies to a new art form in itself. Indeed, AIP’s Sam Arkoff and James H. Nicholson would often have a poster designed first to pre-sell a movie to theatre owners before it even went into production.

Below are just some of the lurid posters that this prolific artist created; they are representative of a time when movies could be sold to a potential audience eager for thrills by just an single image alone whilst going on to become key examples of American pop culture iconography in themselves.

Some of the artwork above was worked on by Reynold Brown or may have been his work supervised by Albert Kallis. If anyone knows more information please comment below. In 1958, Kallis also co-founded the IHOP (International House of Pancakes) restaurant chain.

‘Lust has never been this terrifying!’

Horror Rises from the Tomb (original title: El espanto surge de la tumba is a 1972 Spanish supernatural horror film starring Jacinto Molina (better known as Paul Naschy) and was directed by Carlos Aured. The film introduced Naschy’s character of Alaric de Marnac, an executed warlock who returns to life centuries later to wreak his revenge. De Marnac later returned in a belated 1982 sequel Panic Beats. The film was also released in the US as Mark of the Devil 4: Horror Rises from the Tomb.

Creature Feature! is a 2010 American ‘adult’ horror film. It was directed by Lizzy Borden aka Janet Romano (who also directed Cannibalism, a similar sex/horror crossover movie, in 2002). It stars Sunny Lake, Mark Zane, Anthony Rosano, Evan Stone, Tommy Gunn, Tom Byron, Jennifer White, Andy San Dimas.

A surprising number of porn parodies are a lot of fun to watch, including Jonathan Morgan’s Double Feature (1999) which appears to have been the overall role model for this incompetent poverty-row portmanteau video, with Sunny Lane as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark introducing five hardcore vignettes (“The Bride of Fuckenstein”; “The Mummy – It Will Leave You Speechless”; “Count Dracula”; “The Wolfman”; “Night of the Fucking Dead Zombie!”) produced in what looks like one or two days with approximately $200 worth of Halloween props and costumes. You will find yourself fast-forwarding through most of it to end your misery.

Orror is an Italian adult comic book (known as “fumetti” in Italy) that was published in two volumes in the late seventies. Initially, twenty one issues were published between June 1977 and May 1978. The second series, published in 1979, consisted of six issues. Some of the cover artwork was obviously ‘inspired’ by film imagery.

Terror en el tren de la medianoche (“Terror on the Midnight Train”) is an obscure 1980 Spanish horror film (released 1982) directed by Manuel Iglesias from a screenplay by co-written with Antonio Fos (Cannibal Man; A Candle for the Devil; The Vampires’ Night Orgy). Iglesias also composed the soundtrack score. It stars Rafael Hernández, Mary Paz Pondal, José Riesgo.
