Sorority Girls and the Creature from Hell is a 1990 horror film written, produced and directed by John McBrearty (his only feature), based on a story co-written with Lynette McBrearty (she also plays Sara). It stars Len Lesser, Deborah Dutch and Eric Clark.
Sorority girls, and boys, go to a cabin in the woods with a local fisherman in tow. Unfortunately, an escaped and violent convict is on the loose. Plus, Uncle Ray has become possessed by a Native American spirit that turns him into a monster with a thirst for human blood…
Reviews:
“The acting is cheesy. The score is perfectly overwrought. The sets and special effects look cheap, but that fits into the whole aesthetic of these cheap monster movies of the 50’s and 60’s. The antagonists, a creature from hell and the stone creature that controls it, are fun.” Brandon C. Sites
“Despite the problems with the feature in terms of the poor quality of the dramatics and the lack of gooey effects, I still thought that it was actually a fun flick to sit through. It’s just so incredibly cheesy and dumb that I think you’d be hard pushed to find someone that wouldn’t enjoy it.” A Slash Above…
“There’s not one aspect of this movie that they manage to pull off successfully. The direction, writing, editing, photography, acting, sound, continuity, lighting and special effects are all painfully, annoyingly awful. As a creature feature, this commits the biggest possible sin it could: a barely-visible creature.” The Bloody Pit of Horror
“It seems as if the producers behind this film decided to take all of the cliches of the horror genre, action genre, comedy genre, and the worst softcore p*rnos you have seen and mixed it up in a cinematic blender. It really is that strange but it is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.” Slasher Studios
“A rank amateur production, stricken by poverty.” John Stanley, Creature Features
Verdict:
With its clichéd characters (some of whom are deliberately annoying), stock situations and a cheap (briefly-glimpsed) monster, this is a movie that knowingly aims low. It’s a mildly diverting time-waster if you watch it fully aware of the tongue-in-cheek approach. That said, the escaped convict aspect is entirely unnecessary.
